Photo Session Tips, Baby & Maternity
Midsummer into midfall are the peak months for births, which means lots of people are welcoming little bundles of joy right now. This means it’s time to get ready for newborn photos!
Capturing beautiful photos of your newborn can be a daunting task, but with a little preparation and patience, you can ensure a smooth and successful photography session. To help you get started, we’ve put together eight tips to help you prepare for your newborn photo session and create amazing photos you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
Plan Ahead
Babies have that newborn glow you don’t want to miss capturing. Schedule your newborn photo session in advance, ideally within the first six weeks of your baby’s life. You can even schedule during your last trimester, so it’s one less thing to worry about when your baby arrives.
Choose the Right Time
Schedule your session time when your baby is well-rested and fed, and try to avoid times when they are typically fussy. Some moms nurse right before the start of the session to encourage a sleepy baby to capture those calm, angelic shots. What’s more, make sure you’re fed, too. Satisfied tummies help parents feel happy and calm as well.
Dress for Success
You can dress your infant in whatever you’d like, but it’s often best to keep it simple. For whimsical poses that show baby’s tiny features, simple wraps, blankets and diaper covers are ideal. Keep in mind, neutral or soft colors are less distracting and let baby be the star of the show.
Loosen Clothing
At least 30 minutes before your session, loosen baby’s clothing. Tight clothes can cause imprints on skin that are visible in photographs. You want to show off that fresh, baby-soft skin in your pictures.
Pose Ideas
Explore newborn photography galleries to find ideas of what you might like for your session. Bring your ideas along and discuss them with your photographer and they’ll do their best to bring them to life.
Prop Colors
Your photographer will have access to a variety of props to enhance the newborn photography session. Think about where you plan to hang images (nursery, living room, etc.) so you can select props that coordinate with the decor.
Include Parents
Baby is the focus, but the presence of the parents can be a wonderful enhancement to photos. When parents are included in some poses, the love simply radiates. Make sure to be ready to jump in for a few snaps, too.
Trust the Professionals
Patience is key when it comes to newborn photography. Know you’re in good hands with your photographer and enjoy the session. The results are sure to make you smile!
By following these tips, you can help create a calm and comfortable environment for your newborn photo session and capture stunning photos that you’ll cherish for years to come.
